I Feel 18 Again

I visited a chiropractic physician today to get my back adjusted. I've gone 35 years and have never had this done before. I'm here to tell you that you have not lived a full life until you've had your back adjusted (and I mean really adjusted). I'm pretty sure the receptionist who was on the other side of the door and 20 ft down the hall heard and felt my adjustment. Immediatley after, I jumped up off the table and felt like a new man.

I've always been reluctant to go to the doctor or take any medication unless I really needed it. I'm starting to wonder what else I've been missing. Maybe I'll try an Ambien tonight?

I'm back in business and ready to ride. Good luck to all who will be racing the St. George Intermountain Cup this weekend. I'll be out of town but have my eye on the race in April.

Bad Mood

It's been 4 days since I've done anything active.  The past 3 days have been spent at an offsite company kick-off event (10 hours of Powerpoint for 3 days straight).  And as soon as I got home, I sprained my back.  I haven't been able to do anything but lay around with a bag of ice on my back.

It seems like it takes months to get into shape and less than a week to lose it all.

I'm about to crack.  If someone has a gun and wants to come put a cap in my head, please do.

Value Meal

Last year, I spent $26 on a 5 lb bucket of whey protein shake.  I was pressured into buying this because EVERYONE at work had at least one of these 5 lb buckets in their office or on their desk.  It didn't matter if that person was skinny or large, everyone was on the whey protein.

The label says it contains 79 servings.  But every time I open the lid to make a shake, it seems like the protein powder has multiplied overnight and I still have a full bucket.   Should I be concerned?  Does this stuff have an expiration date?

Check my math here but if divide $26 by 79 servings, I come up with $0.329 per serving.  That's less than half of any any item on the Wendy's dollar menu.  Where was this stuff when I was a starving college student?

I guess the only problem is after about 10 shakes, I start to crave a different flavor.  Anyone out there want to trade buckets?  I hear the berry flavor is almost as good as Pepto-Bismol.

V-Day Card

My wife is a good sport. Between my biking and skiing habit, she ends up doing 3x the typical laundry than the normal 5 person family. So it's not a surprise that it was while doing a load of darks she was noticed something. The chamois in one of my favorite bib shorts resembles a heart. This inspired her to make a V-day card using the chamois from my bib shorts. Check it out: (Warning, these shorts have been heavily used and the chamois is a little warn in the middle. Despite the darkness, it's not what you might think or maybe it is....I can't say for sure).

Weapon of Choice 08?

Last year, Elden unveiled his "weapon of choice" for Leadville- A tricked out Gary Fisher Paragon. I've been working on my ride for Leadville 2008 all winter long and am finally ready to show the World. Here it is:

It's made of bamboo so you know its going to be light and have plenty of flex. I can't wait to ride it. I just hope it doesn't rain this year.
(Thanks Jamie P. for the design reference. You are always keeping us current on the new gear).

Leadville 100 Postcard

Look what came in the mail today.....

Yep. It's official. I'm in for Leadville this year.

I've been checking the mail all week waiting for this silly little postcard. Tonight I'm in Los Angeles and I called my wife to see if anything special came in the mail today. When she told me I got a postcard from Leadville, I asked her to take a picture and email it to me. She replied "Um. no, that's gay..."

I've been debating about riding my geared bike and trying to break the sub 9 time or riding my single speed and hanging with Dug. (Dug- redemption will be so sweet). I think I need to give the sub 9 another try. Either way, it's going to be painful.

$240 bucks and 8 months of training just to suffer like a dog for 100 miles. It's crazy but I'm so excited to do this again.

Sweet Nectar

The kids got me this book for Christmas - "From Lance to Landis". I've really liked it. My favorite part of the book so far is when Tyler Hamilton talks about his attempt to lose weight and uses a diet of water and Diet Coke.
For years, I've been thinking about going off the Diet Coke but can never get myself to do it. I like it too much. I've thought it might help my cycling if I cut it out of my diet but after reading about Tyler driking it for his main food source and seeing how successful he has been, I'm sticking with it. It's my EPO.

My Cubical

I spend most of the day in a cube farm at work. It's a big cube with a window view but still it's a cube. I'm actually fine with it. But lately I've been thinking of making some changes to it.

The guy next to me has converted his cubical into a mini apartment complete with a full functioning kitchen. Seriously, his mini fridge has more food, drinks & condiments in it than my fridge at home (which feeds a family of 5). He has a full table setting for 3 (bowls, spoons, plates), he has at least 5 boxes of cold cereal, I can't tell if he has a microwave but based on the amount of frozen dinners he goes through, I'd bet he has one. And that's just his kitchen. Don't get my started on his family room or excerise area. I could go on and on but you get the point.

So if he can live rent free in his cube, why can't I have a full gym in mine? I could bring down my rollers, a spin bike, and my weight bench. Maybe a mini TV with a DVD player. I could save a lot of time by getting my workouts in while working. I think I'm on to something here and with Leadville only 8 short months away, it's time to make some changes around here.
