Cosmic Brownies

I noticed a box of these in the pantry the other day:

Seth, our 8 year old, picked them out for his school lunches. At first glance, I didn't even have any interest in these but by the time 3am rolled around, I woke up and couldn't get these out of my head.

I resisted.

As I left for work, I grabbed one. Figured it would be a good pre-ride sugar rush.

I kept looking at that brownie on my desk all morning. Wondering if it really was a good as it looked.

Finally at 11am, I ate it.

Little Debbie makes a mean cosmic brownie. Highly recommended before a ride (and not half bad post ride)

Meeting Invite

It's lunch ride season. Time to get back on a schedule.

I've been trying to come up with a good business sounding name for the Utah County Lunch Rides. Something to put on the Outlook invites so it looks like an official meeting that people will respect and schedule around.

These are my two ideas:

UCCA- Utah County Cycling Association
UTLRA- Utah Lunch Ride Association

I consider all of you prospective buyers of Adobe software. These lunch rides are sales calls for me. Eventually, I'll need some of you to buy. If not buy, at least dress up and come in and meet the Executive Team and help me explain why the deals in my sales pipeline keep getting pushed out in my sales forecasts.

By the way, there is a lunch meeting tomorrow at 11:45 from the shooting range. Hope to see you there.

Reality Check

I promised free FLY socks to all those who beat me up the AF climb this morning. I counted six of you at the top when I rolled through the parking lot. But my vision was a little blurry so if I missed anyone, let me know.

4 of the 6 are riding for SALT cycling next year. I think we have a strong team in the making.

Thanks for the reality check. It felt good to get worked over. I need to pencil in some bike practice if I ever want to ride in a group again.

Dug- For the record, the roads were "damp" with spots of "wet". I don't understand how you can descend like that and drop everyone. You are crazy.

Green Light



Doctor gave me the green light to resume normal cycling activity. And no more crutches.

See you tomorrow at 6:45am base of AF ready to ride.

Fast Friday is going to hurt.

You Will Love Me. You Will Hate Me.

In an effort to fatten up the competition before CX season kicks in, I am posting this recipe.

I demand that you make this.

You will love me, your spouse will love me, your kids will love me. Then, you will hate me. Your kids will never eat syrup from the bottle again. You will start putting this on anything and everything. You will want to put in your water bottle and drink it straight up during your rides.

1 cube butter (1/2 cup)

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 cup sugar

1 tsp. Karo syrup

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1 tsp. vanilla

Bring butter, buttermilk, sugar and Karo Syrup to a boil. Remove from heat and add soda and vanilla. Serve with pancakes, waffles, or french toast, cheeseburgers, pasta, cereal, pizza. Put in your water bottle and drink it.

(It will keep in the refrigerator for a few weeks if you don't use all of it.)


Your butt will be on backwards after a few weeks but it's worth it.

Mark Your Calendars


Friday, August 27th, 2010 is going to be"Hurt Rick Day".

After 7 long weeks off the bike, I think I'm finally ready to ride again. And nothing would make me happier than sharing my lack of fitness with all of you fast guys. (I was going to organize another Thur Night Ride World Championship Race, but I don't want to crash on my first ride back, so I'm playing it safe and staying on the road for now. But don't worry, the next night race isn't too far away.....).

Seriously, I need a good beat down to motivate me to get back into shape so please come and put the hurt on. But I'm warning you. I'm not going down without a fight.

Friday morning. AF Canyon. From guard shack to the summit and back down.

Every rider who beats me to the summit gets a free pair of FLY socks (that's a lot of socks!!!).

DFL to the summit gets a pair of used crutches.

2) Bunny hop a barrier during a CX race



It's ridiculous that as much time as I spend on a bike, I haven't learned how to master either of these tricks.

From what I understand, it's the caffeine that takes the calcium from the bones. And I drink a lot of caffeine.

"That" Guy

If you've ever raced, you can probably relate.

You know that moment in a race when you are at your limit, suffering, talking to yourself, praying for a mechanical so you can DNF, and then you look up and see that guy in the crowd. The guy who seems way too comfortable and happy? And for a brief moment, you would give anything to switch places.

I've always wanted to be on that side of the race. Comfortable, drinking an ice cold Diet Coke, eating chips, watching the racers go by as they suffer.

I think that's my new PCP2P race plan. I'm going to embrace the idea of watching it from the sideline. Maybe pack a camera, take some pics, give some high fives....whatever.

Mile 50 seems like a good place to camp out and watch the fireworks.

I've been avoiding the idea of transferring my PCP2P entry. In fact, I still haven't transferred it yet but I know the hip just won't be ready for that kind of race or ride. I thought about maybe starting it and seeing how far I can get but I don't think that would be fair to the racers who didn't get in.

So for now, I'm working on accepting the facts. I won't be racing. I'll be watching.

And there are a few people I plan to heckle and tease as they come by. The guys who have been going out of their way to track me down and tell me how amazing their weekly rides have been these past few weeks. (Too much time away from my bike has made me bitter and grunpy. )

On a positive note, I logged 37 min on the spin bike today with a max HR of 163. Hard to get excited about those stats but I'm in a much better place than I was 3 weeks ago.

Tell Rico I'm coming for him.

I'm Thinking Of A Master Plan...

Forget about quotas and sales presentations....this is the number I'm rolling up to Management when we review the FY2010 results.

I missed the last 6 races of the season but somehow managed to keep enough points for a top 3 finish in the ICUP SS overall.

I'm asking for 2 hour lunch breaks in 2011 so I can chase that top step.

The Skinsuit

I did it. I ordered my first skinsuit for CX season. I'm THAT dedicated to the sport.

Walking around in lycra shorts and jersey just isn't awkward enough any more. Time to take it one step further.

I can't wait to see what the construction works at the local Chevron think of it when I debut it this Fall.

Pros: No snags when mounting/dismounting the bike, no need to adjust the jersey, stretchy, style points.

Cons: no pockets, no way to hide any extra lbs.

Progress

Got the HR up to 145 today on the spin bike. I'm starting to see some meat back on those bird legs.

Still can't ride a real bike but I've started checking the tire pressure and looking for the chain lube.
